Pisces (Mina)

Pisces (Mina) is the twelfth and last sign of the zodiac. It is a water sign and dual, ruled by Jupiter. Pisces closes the circle of rashis, and its nature is dissolution, compassion and a descent into depth, so a day under this sign gently sets a mood of closing things out, resting, and inward work.

Place in the system

Pisces is the twelfth of the twelve rashi signs and the last arc of the zodiac circle, 330°–360°. The sign is ruled by Jupiter, who also owns fiery Sagittarius; these two signs form Jupiter's pair of dominions. By element Pisces is water, and together with Cancer and Scorpio it closes the water trine. By quality it is a dual (dvisvabhava) sign — transitional and flexible, like the zodiac's other dual signs: Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius.

Venus shows itself most strongly in Pisces: this is its exaltation, around 27°. Mercury, by contrast, falls into debilitation around 15° — Mercury's rational, dividing nature sits poorly with the sign's dissolving watery medium. Three nakshatras fall on the sign: the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada (its first three padas lie in Aquarius), all of Uttara Bhadrapada, and all of Revati.

The image of Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions yet bound together. It is a sign of dissolving boundaries — personal, bodily, the line between "one's own" and "another's."
