Kshema

Kshema Tara (Kshema-tāra) — the fourth of the nine taras in the Tara Bala system. The name comes from the Sanskrit "kshema" (safety, well-being). Tradition places it among the favourable taras: it is a tara of calm everyday matters, of days when it's good to look after home and health.

Place in the system

Tara Bala divides the circle of 27 nakshatras into three circles of nine taras. Kshema Tara is the fourth position: the Moon stands three steps ahead of your birth nakshatra.

Kshema Tara comes around three times per lunar circuit — about every 9 days.

Practical meaning

Kshema Tara is a favourable window for calm everyday matters: setting up the home, looking after health, maintaining what you already have. Tradition connects it with safety and preserving what already exists.

The Kshema Tara background works through protection. It is a day on which the usual order of things holds steady.

Kshema Tara stands between Vipat Tara and Pratyak Tara — two unfavourable positions of the cycle — and in that sense works as a breathing space between them: a day to strengthen what already exists before the cycle again calls for caution. That's why Kshema Tara is often used not for new undertakings but to bring order to what has already taken shape — tidying up the home, health, relationships. Such a breathing space is no less valuable than days of plain growth.

The previous position of the cycle is Vipat Tara, the next is Pratyak Tara.
