Shukla is yoga of brightness and clarity.

Shukla (Shukla) is the twenty-fourth of the 27 yogas of the panchanga. By count it's yoga #24, right after Shubha. The name comes from the Sanskrit "shukla" — "white," "clear," "bright." Tradition counts Shukla among the favorable yogas: days under it suit good undertakings, cleanliness, and any matter where clarity matters.

Place in the system

Yoga is the fourth limb of the panchanga, counted by the sum of the longitudes of the Sun and the Moon. Shukla is twenty-fourth in the 27-part cycle, from 306°40′ to 320° of combined longitude.

In the muhurta classification, Shukla is counted among the favorable yogas. The connection to clarity and light is the yoga's main note.

The yoga's name is the same Sanskrit word as in "Shukla Paksha" (the bright half of the month), but there's no astronomical link between them: paksha is counted by the difference of the Sun's and Moon's longitudes, the yoga by their sum, and the Shukla yoga can fall in either half of the month, waxing or waning.

Practical meaning

In the tradition of choosing a muhurta, Shukla is held favorable for good undertakings, purification, offerings, austerity. Tradition adds any matter where clarity matters.

The Shukla background works through light. Tradition ties such a day to what's undertaken without fog or confusion — with a clear view of the matter.

In daily practice

Shukla is a day for clear-cut matters. It's good on this day to make a clear decision, clarify something long tangled, work through something complex. The Shukla yoga supports any undertaking where clarity matters.

Shukla also suits purification — physical and spiritual. Tradition ties such a day to fasting, light food, meditation, and reading going deeper than usual.

Shukla also suits offerings, prayer, pious practices. The bright note of Shukla here is a natural support.

How favorable this day is for you personally is refined by Tara Bala — a count from your birth nakshatra. Shukla sets a general background of clarity, and the personal layer shows whether that background fits your state today.
