Krishna Dvitiya is second tithi of the waning moon.

Krishna Dvitiya (Dvitiya) — the second tithi of the waning moon. By count this is tithi No. 17, and it belongs to the Bhadra class — "auspicious" days. It mirrors Shukla Dvitiya but lies in the dark half: the light is already waning, and the second step of descent takes this calmly, as a given. A day for clothing and adornment, for quiet rites and favorable travel — for anything that goes smoothly.

Place in the system

Tithi is the lunar day, 12° of divergence between the Moon and the Sun. Krishna Dvitiya runs second in the dark half — krishna paksha, right after Krishna Pratipada. This is the second step of descent, and it is steadier than the first: the rhythm of waning is already clear here.

By class, Krishna Dvitiya is Bhadra. The same class includes Krishna Saptami and Krishna Dwadashi; their mirror pairs lie in shukla paksha. The Bhadra background works here the same as in its shukla sister — but adjusted for descent: whatever is arranged here is arranged gently, without a rush.

Krishna Dvitiya's deity is Vidhatri, the same Brahma-the-allotter as in its shukla sister.

Practical meaning

By the classical rules of muhurta, Krishna Dvitiya is favorable for clothing and adornment, for improving the home, for pleasant travel. Tradition adds rites connected with the feminine sphere, family well-being, and the household's long endurance.

The Bhadra background in Krishna Dvitiya works more softly than in its shukla sister. Here favorable matters run not toward a rise but toward reinforcement — what has already been laid down is reinforced; what has already been adorned shines more quietly, but more steadily.

Krishna Dvitiya does not carry a major pan-Indian festival — the Bhai Dooj rite falls on Shukla Dvitiya of the month of Kartika.

In daily practice

Krishna Dvitiya is a day for quiet, favorable matters. It is good to set the home in order, refresh your clothing, give a gift to those close to you. The Bhadra background takes on these concerns readily and without drama.

The day also suits travel that requires no rush: visiting relatives, seeing parents, reaching a familiar place by a familiar route. Krishna Dvitiya is not an adventurous tithi, and there is no need to make it one.

The day is also good for self-care — light, warm, without ostentation. The waning light here works as a stroke on the portrait, not as a scene on a stage.

How much this day is yours is refined by Tara Bala — the count from your birth nakshatra to the one the day falls under. Bhadra sets a calm, favorable background, and the personal layer shows whether it falls within your orbit today.
