Kuja-Rahu Yoga

Sanskrit: Kuja-rāhu yoga

Type
Concepts

Kuja-Rahu Yoga is Mars with Rahu: impulsiveness and risk of conflict — hold back.

Kuja-Rahu Yoga (Kuja-rāhu yoga) — a combination of Mars and Rahu in the same sign. The name comes from "Kuja" (Mars) + "Rahu". Tradition holds it a tense combination of heightened risk.

Place in the system

Yogas and combinations describe stable combinations of grahas and their joint influence. This article covers the transit reading of Kuja-Rahu (gochara) — by Mars's and Rahu's current positions in the sky; the same combination in the birth chart is read separately and isn't covered here.

Kuja-Rahu Yoga is Mars and Rahu in the same sign. The window is set by the faster of the two planets — Mars: it crosses a sign in roughly a month and a half to two months, and the conjunction with Rahu itself repeats on average about every year and a half to two years. If Mars is retrograde during this stretch, the window can run noticeably longer than usual.

The neighbouring combination in spirit is Kuja-Shani Yoga, where Mars's partner is Saturn instead of Rahu: there the tension reads not as impulsiveness but as the weight of hard work.

Practical meaning

Kuja-Rahu Yoga is a difficult combination. Tradition reads it as explosive energy, a tendency toward impulsiveness, and a risk of conflict; in this background it's better to hold a pause before sudden decisions than to act in the heat of the moment and regret it.

In Indian folk practice, Kuja-Rahu Yoga is a time when devout Hindus give more attention to prayer, fasting, and care in their words and actions — especially behind the wheel and in an argument.

In daily practice

Kuja-Rahu Yoga is a time for caution. If Mars and Rahu are currently in the same sign, tradition advises against starting anything sudden, watching your words, and staying more alert to conflict.

Kuja-Rahu also suits spiritual practice: meditation, fasting, offerings to Mars (Kuja); part of tradition adds offerings to Shani (Saturn) here too — he's held to soften Rahu.

Tara Bala refines not the combination itself, but how favourable the particular day it falls on is for you.
