Tara Bala

Naidhana is tara of transformation: a day of pause and clearing.

Naidhana Tara (Naidhana-tāra), in some sources Vadha Tara — the seventh of the nine taras in the Tara Bala system. The name comes from the Sanskrit "nidhana" (closure, end). Tradition places it among the unfavourable taras: a tara of closure and pause — a day better given to winding down and clearing than to new undertakings.

Place in the system

Tara Bala divides the circle of 27 nakshatras into three circles of nine taras. Naidhana Tara is the seventh position: the Moon stands six steps ahead of your birth nakshatra.

Naidhana Tara comes around three times per lunar circuit — about every 9 days.

Practical meaning

Naidhana Tara is a day on which it's better not to start major new matters: long trips, important decisions that call for clarity years ahead. Tradition connects it with closure, not growth.

The Naidhana Tara background works through closure. It is a day on which it's better to see something already begun through to the end than to open something new.

In Indian folk practice, Naidhana Tara is a day on which devout Hindus often keep a fast and prayer, avoiding risky new ventures.

In daily practice

Naidhana Tara is a day for pause. If you have a choice, don't plan the start of major matters for this day: long trips, important long-term decisions.

Naidhana Tara also suits a practice of closure: closing out something long-running, putting matters in order. It is a day on which mindfulness matters especially.

Naidhana Tara also suits prayer and fasting: a short meditation, a request for well-being. Protection here lies in humility and mindfulness.

Naidhana Tara is the least favourable of the cycle's nine positions by traditional reckoning, but right after it comes Mitra Tara, a day of friendship and support: the pause here is not a dead end but a transition to an easier period. That alternation is part of the cycle's own design, not the coincidence of a particular day.

How much this day calls for a pause specifically for you is refined by the cycle's neighbouring taras — Sadhana Tara and Mitra Tara.
