Shatabhisha is nakshatra of healing and expanse.

Shatabhisha (śatabhiṣaj) is the twenty-fourth nakshatra; its name means "one hundred healers". It is lunar mansion No. 24, ruled by Rahu. Shatabhisha is about healing, secrecy, and independence — about knowledge kept from outside eyes.

Place in the system

Shatabhisha occupies 306°40′–320°00′, in Aquarius, and divides into four padas of 3°20′ each. In the Vimshottari system it is ruled by Rahu, and together with Ardra and Swati it belongs to the trio of "Rahu" nakshatras.

Aquarius is a sign of community and of the detached view at once, and this nakshatra takes the second side of it: together with Rahu as ruler, the sign gives it a pull toward apartness and hidden knowledge. Shatabhisha keeps to itself and trusts what it has verified rather than what is commonly accepted.

Practical meaning

Shatabhisha's symbol is a circle of one hundred stars: a multitude within which the healer is hidden. The Brihat Samhita (XV.22) assigns to this mansion snarers, anglers, fish dealers, boar hunters, washermen, distillers, and fowlers; also aquatic products. This is a recurring theme of the mansion, not a portrait of any one person: classical lists describe tendencies, not fate.

This is a nakshatra of healing and seclusion: its knowledge runs deep but is not put on display. Its strength lies in the capacity to heal and to see what is hidden, but the same closedness makes Shatabhisha stubborn and distrustful, inclined to check everything itself and keep its distance. The best in it comes out when independence and the pull toward the hidden serve healing and the search for truth, rather than hardening into suspicion.

In daily practice

When the Moon moves through Shatabhisha, the day is good for treatment, solitary work, investigating what is concealed, and matters better handled alone. It is a favorable time to deal with what requires quiet and concentration.

How favorable such a day is for you personally is refined by Tara Bala, counted from your birth nakshatra. Shatabhisha in the day is a sign that the moment suits secluded and healing work. Noisy joint undertakings and public exposure suit such a day less.
