Guru-Chandala Yoga is Jupiter with Rahu: shaken guidance — be careful with "teachers" and reputation.
Guru-Chandala Yoga (Guru-cāṇḍāla yoga) — a combination of Jupiter with Rahu in the same sign. The name comes from "Guru" (Jupiter) + "Chandala" (in Sanskrit texts, a person outside the varna system; in this yoga's name it's a metaphor for defilement and the mixing of incompatible things, not a social characterization). Tradition holds it a combination in which Jupiter's clarity gets mixed with Rahu's distortion.
Place in the system
Yogas and combinations describe stable combinations of grahas and their joint influence. This article covers the transit reading of Guru-Chandala (gochara) — by Jupiter's and Rahu's current positions in the sky; the same combination in the birth chart is read separately and isn't covered here. Here, Guru-Chandala specifically means Jupiter with Rahu; part of tradition extends the same name to a conjunction with Ketu, but that's a separate variant, not covered here.
Guru-Chandala Yoga is Jupiter and Rahu in the same sign. The window is set by the faster of the two planets — Jupiter — but Rahu doesn't stand still: it moves retrograde, against Jupiter's direction, so their joint stay in one sign averages shorter than a year — anywhere from a few months up to about a year, if the conjunction happens to fall in the middle of the sign.
Practical meaning
Guru-Chandala Yoga is a combination in which Jupiter's blessing gets mixed with Rahu's shadow. Tradition reads it as a dimming of guidance: familiar authorities and advice call for closer checking rather than blind trust.
In Indian folk practice, Guru-Chandala Yoga is a time when devout Hindus watch their discipline especially closely, fast on Guruvara, Thursday, and make offerings to Jupiter.
In daily practice
Guru-Chandala Yoga is a background that suggests double-checking advice rather than leaning on a single authority. If Jupiter is currently with Rahu in the same sign, tradition advises paying closer attention to decisions tied to education and reputation.
In this background, tradition recommends meditation, fasting, offerings to Brihaspati (Jupiter) and Ganesha.
Tara Bala refines not the combination itself, but how favourable the particular day it falls on is for you.
