Harshana is yoga of joy and elation.

Harshana (Harshana) is the fourteenth of the 27 yogas of the panchanga. By count it's yoga #14, right after Vyaghata. The name comes from the Sanskrit "harshana" — "jubilation," "joy," "merriment." Tradition counts Harshana among the favorable yogas: days under it suit joyful gatherings, celebrations, family occasions, and any matter with jubilation in it.

Place in the system

Yoga is the fourth limb of the panchanga, counted by the sum of the longitudes of the Sun and the Moon. Harshana is fourteenth in the 27-part cycle, from 173°20′ to 186°40′ of combined longitude — the first yoga of the circle's second half, right after the ashubha yoga Vyaghata.

In the muhurta classification, Harshana is counted in the favorable group. The connection to joy and jubilation is the yoga's main note.

Practical meaning

In the tradition of choosing a muhurta, Harshana is held favorable for celebrations, gatherings with family, weddings, engagements. Tradition adds any joyful occasion — birthdays, name days, celebrations of success.

The Harshana background works through joy. Tradition ties this day to celebration and jubilation — what comes especially naturally on such a day, without strain. If you haven't gathered your close ones in a while, such a day suits that.

In daily practice

Harshana is a day for joy. It's good on this day to throw a celebration, host guests, spend time with close ones without a reason to put it off. The Harshana yoga supports any undertaking that involves jubilation.

Harshana also suits reconciliation, if the falling-out has already faded and you just want to be close again.

Harshana also suits charity in a joyful form — feeding people, giving gifts, a celebration for those less fortunate. Joy here works through giving.

How favorable this day is for you personally is refined by Tara Bala — a count from your birth nakshatra. Harshana sets a general background of jubilation and ease, and the personal layer shows whether that background fits your state today.
